The Seamless Garment and Jesus, the Way, the Truth and the Life |
|
The faith of Christians is focused on Jesus Christ who not only points out the way, highlights the truth and gives us life but who is the way, the truth and the life. (John 14:6) He is the living word that manifests life. This life is forgiveness of sin (1 John 5:16) and living water (John 4:10). Jesus has the words of eternal life (John 6:68). We obtain that life through faith in him (John 3:15) and by keeping God’s commandments (John 12:50). The mission of Jesus is portrayed in John’s gospel as the bringing of life. This is eternal life. Jesus is the bread of life who comes down from heaven, the bread of life. Jesus Preaches Life For Jesus, life is something valuable, “more so than food.”(Matthew.6:25) Saving a life is more important even than the Sabbath (Mark 3:4) because God is not a God of the dead but a God of the living (Mark 12:27). Jesus cures and restores life almost as if He cannot tolerate the presence of death (John 11:15) In Jesus is Life Jesus is the eternal word who possessed life from all eternity (John 1:4). He is the complete master of all life (John 5:26) and gives it in abundance (John 10:10). Jesus Christ, the Sovereign of Life Freely and because of love for the Father and for His own, “He gives His life (John 10:11) as the good shepherd does for his sheep. Jesus Christ, dead and risen, becomes the “prince of life.” (Acts 3:15).
To live in ChristThe passing from death to life is repeated in the person who believes in Christ (John 5:24). No longer is the believer subject to the limits of the flesh. He can pass unharmed to live forever (John 8:11), no longer for himself, but “for Him who died and arose” for his sake. (2 Corinthians 5:15)
Death Absorbed by LifeIn proportion as the Christian shares the death of Christ here and now by enduring His sufferings, the Christian will manifest Christ’s life even in his or her body (2 Corinthians 4:10).
